Promoting Cycling, Walking & Public Transport for Health (Gävle, Sweden)The development of a programme to increase the use of bikes and buses and decrease the number of car trips in a Swedish city, linked to a national programme for sustainable transport. Gavle is the first municipality to run campaigns for all modes, not only public transport. Aimed at the general public, this extends an existing programme, which has been very successful in increasing cycle use. The programme will include a partnership with the health sector, raising public awareness about the health benefits of sustainable transport; running demonstration and pilot projects and starting a Community Involvement Programme. Assessments will also build on previous work and include a mobility study, including attitude surveys; telephone surveys and customer satisfaction surveys.
