Workpackages

The execution of the project has been grouped into six main work areas (one of which has been sub-divided into three further work packages). Each of these workpackages is described in detail on subsequent pages of this site.

Three of the workpackages run throughout the project:

The first of these, WP1 deals with project management and administrative issues;

The second, WP2, 'Concertation and State-of-the-Art', is concerned with developing an understanding of previous and parallel ongoing work and will be updated on a regular basis as the project proceeds. The initial work of WP2 has concentrated on production of the State-of-the-Art Review which aims to provide an understanding of behavioural and attitudinal concepts, the factors affecting them and the relationships between theory and practice. The report focuses on key lessons and recommendations from previous and ongoing EU and non-EU research projects and studies related to travel, health and environment awareness and is available for download from this site.

The third work package (WP3) covers project dissemination and the exploitation of the results; the TAPESTRY consortium believes that it is important to start develop dissemination and exploitation networks, by assessing user needs and preparing for dissemination of best practice from the case study results at an early stage in the work. During the first year of the project a significant effort has gone into planning the subsequent dissemination of TAPESTRY and outputs such as newsletters, case study results, the evaluation toolkit and policy recommendations will follow throughout years 2 and 3.

Of the other workpackages, workpackage 4 provides the scientific foundation for the study, by setting out a common assessment framework, to be adopted in all case studies clusters. The Common Assessment Framework (CAF) is designed as an aid to better understand the impact of campaigns and to improve the process of campaign building and implementation. It achieves this by setting out core indicators and descriptors to facilitate assessment of the effectiveness and efficiency of campaigns and providing guidelines on the selection of the most suitable evaluation tools, sampling methods, and data collection options.

The work associated with the case studies has been divided into three more specific workpackages, dealing with planning and detailed design (WP5a), implementation and monitoring (WP5b) and local assessment and recommendations (WP5c). During the first year of the project the case studies have undergone significant planning. Details of the individual campaigns can be found elsewhere on this site.

The final main area of work is covered in Workpackage 6, deals with European Level Implications and Policy Recommendations that will be drawn from the project results.
