DEVELOPING CAMPAIGN SOLUTIONS FOR TRANSPORT:
RESULTS FROM THE TAPESTRY PROJECT

Stockholm Thursday 2nd October 2003

Can campaigns change the way people travel? Are any techniques more effective than others in affecting attitudes towards transport? How can communications strategies be used to persuade people to travel by public transport, foot or bike?

These were some of the questions at the heart of the three-year TAPESTRY project, which analysed 18 sustainable transport campaigns across Europe. As TAPESTRY draws to a close, the partners are holding a one-day workshop, based on our new Best Practice Guidelines, for policymakers, transport and health professionals, researchers and campaigners.

The workshop will consist of the following sessions:

  • The need for TAPESTRY. How are sustainable transport issues tackled in different countries, and how does the public react?
  • Campaign basics. How can you manage the design process and assess results? This will be illustrated with examples from TAPESTRY initiatives.
  • Practical workshops. Share your professional know-how on the following topics, (depending on demand): assessment; managing campaigns; the psychology of campaigns; and communication at political levels.
  • Case Studies. Examine in more detail the TAPESTRY campaigns run in your region, and how they compared with those run elsewhere in Europe.
  • Summary and feedback. What have you learnt from the workshop, and what steps should you take next? And what message should we send to the European Commission?

For more information on the workshop, please contact Marie Hervo at Polis mhervo@polis-online.org Tel. +32 2 282 84 67. For further details about TAPESTRY visit www.eu-tapestry.org.
